5 Zero- & Low-Alcohol Spirits for Buzz-Free Imbibing

Ditch the booze and opt for a healthier, alcohol-free cocktail, aperitif, or glass of wine that tastes as good as the real thing.

My pandemic drinking patterns have been all over the place. From that month I became way, much too engrossed in the craft of mixing drinks until the self-imposed cold turkey period. It turned out that neither extreme felt good to me. I enjoy having a drink to end the day since I dislike firm no's. While pausing and unwinding are pleasant experiences, I don't always want to feel buzzed.

Fortunately, the drinking community is standing by my side. By 2024, more people are anticipated to consume beer, wine, spirits, and ready-to-drink goods that have little to no alcohol, according to the most recent report from market research company IWSR.

Here are some of our favorite spirits and brews that are redefining what it means to have a drink.

1.
ATHLETIC BREWING CO. NON-ALCOHOLIC BREWS

I started to notice that many of the runners I follow had the same turquoise and yellow cans in their Instagram images, including marathoner Molly Seidel. After closer examination, I discovered they were consuming the non-alcoholic craft beers produced by Athletic Brewing, which have triumphed in competitions against IPAs with alcohol.

Bill Shufelt, the company's founder, claims he enjoyed drinking beer and going out to bars with friends, but he was tired of getting drunk and experiencing its negative aspects. He, therefore, made it his goal to create tasty non-alcoholic beer. He got it right. A favorite of mine is the Free Wave Hazy IPA.

2.
ACID LEAGUE WINE PROXIES

Since it's challenging to replicate the tang and complexity of wine without using aged grapes, Acid League, the company that creates what they call "Wine Proxies," is not attempting to deceive you into thinking you're sipping Pinot. Instead, they combine fruit, bitters, botanicals, and other ingredients to provide spice, acidity, and body for a comparable effect.

Each month, they produce three new proxies, and they brew up creative flavors like the tart, spring-like Greener Grass, which contains verjus, licorice root, and Riesling grapes.

3.
KIN EUPHORICS

Adaptogens are used instead of alcohol in Kin's line of "euphorics" to make you feel wonderful without making you feel drunk. For instance, their canned Kin Spritz contains Rhodiola Rosea, which is supposed to support the balance of cortisol and nootropics. It is intended to enhance alcohol's effect on your pleasure and reward neurotransmitters. An added bonus is that it also tastes like ginger and hibiscus.

4.
HELLA COCKTAIL CO. BITTERS & SODA

I've been modifying seltzer water with some bitters and, on occasion, a Luxardo cherry for a glittering, bubbly cocktail as one of my go-to non-alcoholic liquid pleasures. With their range of canned Bitters & Soda, Hella Cocktail Co.

has improved that blend. Each taste is nuanced and effervescent, such as the tangy Dry Aromatic, which gets its depth and digestive advantages from French gentian root. Although you can dress them up with fruit (or booze! ), they taste fantastic on their own, especially, in my opinion, for outside drinking.

5.
GHIA NON-ALCOHOLIC APERITIFS

The booze-free business Ghia, whose products are recognizable by their orange, mauve, and pink hues, was motivated by Mediterranean aperitivos, the sour, bubbly, and low-alcohol cocktails that founder Melanie Masarin's family enjoyed before dinner while spending summers at the beach.

By slowing down and halting your day to have a drink, she aimed to generate a similar feeling without alcohol. Ghia Aperitifs, which are herbal in nature rather than alcoholic, channel the same flavors as the alcoholic variety.
